It turns out that 69% of respondents say the parties’ view on housing affordability will affect their voting decisions, and 56% suggest the government should focus on increasing the real estate supply and limiting the demand.

The survey shows 77% of GTA residents agree that the provincial land transfer tax should be reduced and 68% support its entire elimination.

TREB president Tim Syrianos pointed to a recent report saying that many people in Ontario have more space than they need: there are at least five million extra bedrooms registered. However, they don’t downsize as they can’t see the necessary variants for that.

In his opinion, the government should concentrate on the middle priced housing options, something between detached houses and condos, and it could be semi-detached or town homes.
