At the end of 2017, CMHC was fully capitalized reporting $15.2 billion in total mortgage insurance capital and 184% of the minimum regulatory capital target.
“All of our business branches showed strong results in 2017. We invested $3.2 billion in creating the necessary properties across Canada for low- and middle-income buyers and generated $1.8 billion in net income from our mortgage insurance and securitization operations,” – noted Lisa Williams, Chief Financial Officer.
We hope that considering such great result CMHC will stop raising insurance premiums for borrowers and will concentrate on lowering costs of mortgage default insurance for Canadians.
