The largest monthly gain was seen in Ontario with a 36,000 net increase, pushed by 39,000 part-time jobs, while full-time roles didn’t show significant changes.

National Bank of Canada’s analysts, Matthieu Arseneau, says private jobs are still facing certain difficulties this year, although with a recovery in September.

The jobs report for September was quite optimistic after August’s sharp decline. It’s very encouraging to see private employment rebounding after struggling for most of 2018. Yes, full-time job creation was weak last month, but it’s still up by 80,000 on a year to-date basis, while part-time jobs show a 32,000 drop.

“We still expect the central bank to resume monetary policy tightening on October 24, as it will be too difficult to justify low interest rates with the uncertainty surrounding US-Canada trade already over”, – he noted.
