TREB’s battle started back in 2011, when the Competition Bureau put under question TREB’s rules preventing the publication of such data. According to the Bureau, this policy doesn’t support competition and digital innovation.
Meanwhile, TREB, representing more than 50,000 agents in Ontario, said at the Competition Tribunal and later the Federal Court of Appeal that posting this information would be a violation of consumer privacy.
Nevertheless, both judicial bodies took the Bureau’s side, so TREB addressed the Supreme Court of Canada.
According to lawyers, as the court decided not to hear the case, there’s nothing TREB can to do to continue the battle.
