Draft legislation, which includes a land owner transparency act, has been posted on a government website. It remains open for feedback until August 19.
In addition to it, a federal-provincial working group on tax fraud and money laundering will be created.
James says the registry aims at improving the province’s reputation, now known as a great place to anonymously invest into real estate.
“Today, real estate investors can hide in British Columbia behind numerous companies or corporations, offshore and domestic trusts,” – James noted.
“If we end this, it will help us fight tax fraud and money laundering,” – she added.
