One of the main reasons for such an increase is the fact that Canadian consumers started buying higher-priced gas, furniture and clothing.
But Fong believes consumer spending won’t be the same sales driving force as it has been during the whole period of economic recovery.
According to the Retail Council of Canada, consumers are “still hanging back a little bit,” especially today, when the prices are going up for gas and food.
